Arbitrary Waveform Generators
|
The
AWG-8200 is an agile waveform generator designed for linear frequency
chirp, CW burst , and arbitrary waveform applications. It is based upon
a modular programmable digital signal processing baseboard engine with
an integrated 32-bit processor, high-performance FPGA, and two
versatile daughtercard ports that can be clocked up to 1 GHz.
Communication to the baseboard is provided by Ethernet and RS-232 ports
for programming waveform and control parameters.
Depending
upon which version daughtercard is installed, the AWG-8200 can produce
very flexible baseband or upconverted RF outputs.
When
equipped with the DAC-8201 daughtercard module, the AWG-8200 provides
two independent baseband waveform channels. Each channel has its own
32K waveform memory driving a 1 GHz, 14-bit DAC which allows the
AWG-8200 to generate output waveforms from DC to 450 MHz. Each DAC
output is buffered by a wideband amplifier that will provide -5 dBm
output power.
If
the DAC-8202 daughtercard module is installed, the AWG-8200 DACs will
generate complex baseband (I and Q) outputs that drive an integrated
vector modulator. When combined with an external LO input, the RF
output can span from fLO/2 - 400 MHz to fLO/2 + 400 MHz. The LO
frequency should be two times the desired output frequency and can
range anywhere from 800 to 3000 MHz, giving the AWG-8200 tremendous
flexibility in RF waveform generation.
The
waveform memory can generate any arbitrary frequency or amplitude
pattern that will fit within the 32K memory space. Waveforms can be
programmed for output durations from less than 32 nsec to over 32 usec
in increments of 8 nsec with a 1 GHz update rate. Waveforms are
triggered from an external logic signal, which when synchronized to the
1 GHz clock, will produce jitter-free waveforms with repeatable
starting phase.
Programming
the AWG-8200 can be performed through the RS-232 or Ethernet ports. A
simple Window-based GUI provides the simplicity of programming CW
bursts or linear FM chirps. More complex waveforms can be easily
created using text files that uploaded to the AWG-8200.
The
AWG-8200 is available as a stand-alone module for integration into
system-specific applications, or as a bench top instrument for
laboratory use.
